In 1989 Porsche reintroduced one of their most iconic body styles – the Speedster. This uncompromising variant hadn’t been offered since 1959, a time when 356s were rolling out of the factory and the 911 was still five years from inception. The first 911 Speedster was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1987 but it would be 16 months before production actually began in January 1989. Regular 911 Cabriolet body shells were used for the mechanically standard Speedster, these being equipped with a cut-down, more steeply raked aluminium framed windscreen and special frameless one-piece side windows. Both the standard narrow-body and wider Turbo shell were available in most markets although bizarrely only the latter could be specified in North America and Germany. Inside, the seat rails were dropped by 20mm, the seats themselves having been a combination of sport backs with standard lower sections. The rear seats were disposed of and the vacant area carpeted like the Club Sport, an optional storage box (again like that of the CS) having been a sensible upgrade. A manual heater and wind-down windows were fitted as standard.

This stunning example of this iconic and extremely rare Porsche model is presented in the classic combination of Guards Red with black leather interior. There is a letter from Porsche Cars Great Britain confirming that this fabulous car was built by Porsche AG in Germany in July 1989 to C26 South African specification. The car was subsequently delivered to South Africa and sold on 9th September 1990 to His Royal Highness Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. Well known as one of the greatest car collectors in the world and a man famous for having only the very best. This car was bought at the height of his spending and was delivered to him in 1990 with the option of the Turbo style wide body. This is one of just 139 righthand drive 930 Speedsters built.

The car would remain in this famous ownership for 21 years until 2010 when the car was purchased by an Englishman who brought the car into the UK. Having covered just 900 kilometres from new, the car was then recommissioned by Northway Porsche and subsequently entered into one of the other greatest car collections in the world, the Fica Frio Collection. In 2011 the car was registered in the UK. It was in this year that the car was also serviced by Northway Porsche with a reading of just 900 kilometres on the odometer. The car was then sold to the respected specialist DK Engineering who had it serviced whilst in their ownership, by Jazz Porsche. The present owner purchased the car in 2016 and it has been dry stored by DK Engineering ever since, whilst covering a mere 300 kilometres since 2011.

The lineage of ownership is chronicled in the history file, with all servicing records documented in the original service book together with all invoices and manuals/booklets pertaining to this pectacular sports car. This is a stunning and rare Porsche in its original colour scheme and interior with impeccable heritage and virtually delivery mileage (kilometres). This, in our opinion, is simply the finest example of this iconic 1980s sports car available today.
