  • Low mileage example out of long term family ownership
  • Sundym glass power steering and Continental touring kit
  • Webasto folding sunroof & electric windows

Launched at the 1963 Earls Court Motor Show, the P6, Rover’s internal project name, was aimed at the young executive who wanted modern, sporting, high quality transport. Winner of the European Car of the Year Award 1964, it had an advanced design that included a De Dion tube rear suspension, disc brakes all round and an alloy bonnet and boot lid. The early four cylinder power plants remained conventional until the introduction of the fabulous Buick derived 3528cc V8 had joined the party in 1968, this being one of those V8 powered motor cars offered today.

This lovely and very original example of the Rover 3500 is presented in the ‘Huntsman’ colours, an option that was offered within the Rover catalogue for that period; these colours being, a brown vinyl roof, brown vinyl rear pillars and painted brown sills. The coachwork is in good order throughout, being finished in Davos White and complemented by a Dark Tan Ambla interior with tan, box pleat cloth seats. Several desirable options are included; the Sundym glass that darkens in bright weather, electric windows, power assisted steering (PAS), a period folding Webasto sunroof and the useful Continental touring kit that allows the spare wheel to be mounted upon the strengthened alloy boot lid allowing more luggage to be accommodated within the boot if so desired. This handsome example comes complete with a large history file and includes the Passport to Service book, confirming the mileage, original advert from when the family purchased the Rover in 1977, a Rover catalogue and optional equipment list and a useful Owner’s Manual. This is a UK registered Rover with its UK V5C registration document and will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. We are informed by the vendor that this Rover P6 starts and drives very well, the engine pulling strongly and the automatic gearbox changing gear smoothly; some testament, no doubt, to its mileage and care during its life.

The Rover 3500 offered a fabulous driving experience that was way ahead of its time for its class, and, today, good examples with the desirable options are cherished. With this and recent auction results in mind, we feel that this low mileage example is certainly offered with a realistic and tempting estimate.
