The original Porsche 911 was introduced in autumn 1963 and manufactured until 1989. It was succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche 911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable for being rear engine and air cooled and, from its inception, the 911 was modified both by private teams and the factory itself for racing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won the 24 Hours Le Mans and other major sports car races outright against prototypes.
Presented in its original colour and offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this stunning example is one of only 53 UK right hand drive cars believed to have been manufactured. The Heritage Certificate denotes factory options from new including Koni dampers, sports seats, sports brakes, rear wiper and tinted windows. This example has had the benefit of many thousands of pounds spent over the last five decades and comes with a vast history file complete with invoices, receipts, old log books and MoT's, the highlight of which is an invoice for £12,000 for a complete mechanical overall by respected marque specialists, Canford Classics.
Our current owner, a self proclaimed petrol head with an eye for early Porsche models, has recently had the car repainted in its original colours and we are informed this was at significant expense. New rubbers and gaskets have been replaced where required together with new carpets. Serviced by the official Porsche Centre at Brooklands in January of this year at a cost of £1,700, this Targa example is sold with long MoT test certificate. We are informed the car drives and presents beautifully but is by no means a garage queen with trips to both Cornwall and the south west of France this summer. This is a great usable 2.4 litre Porsche in arguably one of the best colour schemes, it is collectable and with a fabulous history sure to be popular with auction attendees.
