Lot 105 - 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider
|Odometer reading||120,000 miles|
|Result||Sold - £6,384|
The Alfa Romeo Spider was manufactured from 1966 to 1993 and is widely regarded as a design classic, remaining in production for almost three decades. The three first series were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco and the fourth series in San Giorgio Canavese; this was the last rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo. The Spider underwent a major styling revamp in 1983 which saw the introduction of black rubber front and rear bumpers. The front bumper incorporated the grille and a small soft rubber spoiler was added to the boot lid, which altered the exterior appearance of the car considerably. Various other minor mechanical and aesthetic modifications were also made and the 1600 car dropped the 'Junior' name. The Quadrifoglio Verde (green four-leaf clover) model was introduced in 1986 with many aesthetic tweaks, including side skirts, mirrors, new front and rear spoilers, hard rubber boot mounted spoilers, unique 15 inch alloys and optional removable hardtop.
Different interior trim included blood red carpets and grey leather seats with red stitching. The QV was offered in only three colours: red, silver and black. It was otherwise mechanically identical to the standard Spider Veloce model, with a 1962cc double overhead cam, four-cylinder engine (twin two barrel carburettors and five speed manual transmission).
This particular example of the stylish Spider is presented in metallic blue with beige interior and contrasting black hood. The present owner has used it a handful of times whilst in his possession and has now decided it is time to part company with the car. The bodywork and interior are all in good condition throughout and the paintwork is also said to be in very good order. These are great little sports cars, admired by many and are always enormous fun to drive on either country roads or motorways- especially with the hood down.
