The Lotus Esprit was built by Lotus at their Hethel factory in the United Kingdom between 1976 and 2004. It was among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro's polygonal ‘folded paper’ designs. Giugiaro wanted to call the car ‘Kiwi’ but the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter ‘E’ won out, and the name became Esprit.
The Series 3 (or S3) and Turbo Esprit debuted in April 1981. The two models shared a common chassis, and bodywork was based on a common set of moulds and The S3 received the 2.2 L Type 912 engine. Interior trim was revised which, when combined with changes to the body moulds, resulted in more headroom and an enlarged foot-well.
This example is presented in white with red leather/cloth interior. Its potent two litre engine was and still is lively to drive and with its low line driving position, it evokes memories of the classic James Bond Film which used a similar model to go underwater. These earlier models are highly sought after and at No Reserve, surely is one of the most affordable on the market today! Please note that this car has been registered with Autolign as Condition Inspected and is supplied with a V5C registration document.
