Introduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280SL. The body and chassis of the third generation Mercedes-Benz SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still showed a resemblance to them. The 3.5 litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generation SL's, the vehicle came as an open roadster with removable hard top and went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of engine size were available, one of the more powerful and rarer was the 4.5 litre unit.

Having just benefitted from a full respray in its original gold colour this lovely and rare 450sl looks fantastic glistening in the sunlight. The body is very solid with little to no sign of corrosion, the interior presents well and the soft top hood is virtually as new having only been fitted a year ago and never used. The car comes complete with its hard top cover which was repainted at the same time as the car. Having had a recent service it has covered just 2000 miles in the past five years. Perhaps most impressive is the service book included in the sale which shows 8 stamps at; 787 miles, 4,963 miles, 9,680 miles, 20,187 miles, 29,560 miles, 40,013 miles 67,026 miles and 89,400 miles. Its latest service was done at 105,000 and the car now shows 106,000 miles. The car starts and runs well on first attempt and drives as you’d imagine any luxury V8 Mercedes from this period would. This incredibly solid and well maintained 450sl offers a lot of style for the money, especially when considering the private plate is included.

The car is supplied with its fantastic service history mentioned above, V5C registration document, MoT test certificate that expires in June 2019 and private number plate.
