The Firebird was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. Introduced in the same year as its platform-sharing cousin the Chevrolet Camaro, the Firebird was seen as a long term competitor to the successful Ford Mustang. The fourth generation Firebird amplified the aerodynamic styling initiated by the previous generation; while the floorpan remained largely the same, ninety percent of the Firebird's parts were all new. Major improvements included standard dual airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, 16 inch wheels, rack-and-pinion power steering and several non-rusting composite body panels. Throughout its fourth generation, trim levels included V6-powered Firebird, and V8-powered Formula and Trans Am.

This unique Pontiac Firebird Exhibition S.E. (Special Edition) 3.4 litre, V6 was built at the St. Therese, Oshawa, Canada production plant on 1st February 1995 and was exported to the UK on 26th September 1995 to the Technology Centre of Pilkington PLC, Lancashire with a total cost of £16,892.35. Pilkington Glass manufactured the glass for GM cars and this display Pontiac was to showcase its E-Z Kool solar control glass at their Technology Centre; glass which had been introduced at the GM Ohio plant for the 1990 Corvette ZR-1 and which radically reduces UV filtration.

Displayed on a ramp at Pilkington for 12 years, the Firebird was sold in 2009 to a motor dealer in Sheffield with just 34 kilometres on the odometer. In 2013 our vendor purchased the car and duly registered it for UK roads. In our vendor’s tenure he has covered a mere 10,000 miles and as such the car has only ever required minor services. Unsurprisingly, this rare manual example was well spec'd for its show purpose and features air conditioning, ABS, electric seats/windows and mirrors, cruise control, and both driver and passenger airbags.

Accompanying this Firebird is an MoT test certificate until January 2019, original owner's manual, the original E-Z Kool Ohio show plates from its time on the show stand, and a substantial history file which includes two glossy photos showing the car on its ramp in the Pilkington Technology Centre. A fantastic low mileage example of a car, still in original condition, with an interesting history that will appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts and anyone looking for an enjoyable driving experience.
