The 308GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 and was built alongside the 308GT4, designed as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fiorvanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferraris including the Daytona, the new 308 was a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. In 1979 it became Ferrari policy to introduce fuel injection on all production models. For the 308 Ferrari chose to use the Bosch K Jetronic system. It was available on the US specification 308s around the middle of 1980. Along with the introduction of fuel injection, there was a switch to Marelli Digiplex electronic ignition and the gearbox was modified. Outwardly, there was little to distinguish these cars from those that have gone before. The 'I' on the back denotes the use of injection and twin tailpipes either side of the silencer box, but this was not infallible as twin exhausts had also been used on high-performance options.
Imported from the USA in 2016, this Californian Grigio Ferro (metallic grey) Ferrari 308GTSi joined part of a private Surrey based collection where it has resided until now. The interior is in its original tan leather and it comes with a black removable roof. The car comes with a file full of service receipts that show its maintenance between 1985 through to 1992. Incredibly well maintained, this 308 runs beautifully, beguiling the 103,000 miles covered. As shown in the service records, the car did almost all of this distance before 1992 when it was presumably put into storage. Recently serviced, with over £2,600 being spent, at which time a new steering rack was supplied and fitted along with various other parts. SMDG Ferrari specialists in Horsham carried out the work and the car runs well. The air conditioning has also been serviced and blows cold, the wheels have benefitted from refurbishment and are shod in Vredestein tyres. This Ferrari 308GTSi is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate, owner's manual and a file containing the car's service history since 1985. The 308 model is one of the most classical shapes produced by Ferrari in the 1980s and represents good value as Ferraris continue to rise in value and desirability.
