Almost all of the 1967-1969 Camaros were built in the two U.S. assembly plants, Norwood, Ohio and Van Nuys, California. The '69 Camaro carried over the previous year's drivetrain and major mechanical components but with all new sheetmetal, except the bonnet and the boot lid. A redesigned grill with inset headlights, new door skins, rear quarter panels and rear valance panels resulted in the car having a lower, wider and more aggressive look. The RS was essentially an appearance package but the SS performance package was what really made this model stand out. The engine choice was either a 350 or 396c.i, V8 with chassis upgrades for better handling and to deal with the additional power. The SS also featured special striping and badges.
This ex-Californian car which has just undergone a full engine rebuild by an American car specialist and has only covered 300 miles since. The engine has an upgraded Edelbrock fuel system and chrome air filters/intake, the cooling system was improved to the Be-Cool Radiator System with full electric automatic fans at a cost of circa $1,500. The exhaust system has also been upgraded with Doug Thorley Headers with opening control located in the dashboard for ease of use and at a cost of circa $2,500. The dashboard gauges have been replaced by ultra light performance dials. This fabulous car comes with a four-speed automatic transmission and a 12 bolt rear differential together with its original RS package wheels and RS package lights. It is also worth noting that this factory SS Camaro has the very expensive Detroit Speed system headlight doors (covers) at a cost of $1,000/side. One can find many for sale which are badged as SS but rarely will you find an original and this is! An iconic American muscle car which is both exhilarating to drive and has head turner looks.
