Lot 274 - 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello
|£69,000 - £78,000
The Ferrari 550 Maranello is a two-seat grand tourer manufactured from 1996 and is powered by a front-engined V12. It shared its platform and 5,474cc engine with the 456 but was positioned as the company's high-end model. Featuring a luxurious and spacious interior and, unusually for a Ferrari, the boot could accommodate a set of golf clubs. The 550 has a tubular steel frame chassis with light aluminium bodywork. Power steering is variable assist and, to be expected of a car with this performance, disc brakes are fitted all round. Acceleration is an impressive 4.2 seconds 0 to 60mph and top speed a reported 199mph. In total, 3,083 Ferrari 550's were produced.
This desirable manual example in Rosso Corsa with newly re trimmed tan leather interior was recently imported from Jeddah, where the car spend most of its life as a daily driver for a prominent Saudi business man. Due to the intense Jeddah heat, the car was recently both re-painted and re trimmed and thus presents very well. Upon mechanical inspection by the current owner when the car arrived in the UK, it was found to not be running on all twelve cylinders. The diagnoses was a bent valve for which the top end of the engine had to be dismantled and the necessary mechanical work fulfilled, this was all undertaken by Ferrari specialists QV Ferrari London. Since the engine was removed the cam belt service was also completed and all essential ancillary items checked before testing.
Unfortunately for the current owner this financial outlay had been more than anticipated and as a result he has opted to sell the car, in what could now be considered very good condition indeed. Within the history file is a copy of the invoice relating to the engine work, a stamped service booklet showing 8 stamps (last in September 2017 with Auto Cavallo) an MoT test certificate until October 2018 and all import documentation and leather bound book pack. This can be considered a very attractively priced manual 550.
We are advised that a UK V5 document has been applied for and is expected before sale.
