|Odometer reading||36,000 miles|
|Estimate||£22,000 - £28,000|
We are pleased to present an Austin Mini Cooper from the second year of manufacture of the Cooper model resulting in this particular example being a rare and sought after, early Mk. I. John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Car Company and Formula One Manufacturers Champion in 1959 and 1960 and a friend of the Mini’s designer, Alec Issignonis, saw the potential of the little car that first saw the light of day in August 1959. The two men collaborated and after some experimentation and testing, created a fast, nimble, economical, and inexpensive motor car. And there, the Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper were born in September 1961.
This fabulous Mini Cooper is currently in its third ownership having been in the care of one family from new until 2014 and has a recorded 36,000 miles. Assembled and registered in South Africa in 1962, this has recently been repatriated back into the UK. This is a matching numbers Cooper with the Heritage Certificate supplied confirming that it still wears its correct exterior colour of Willow Green and corresponding interior trims. It even retains its original period Lucas spot lamps with the correct spot lenses that are unobtainable today. The 997cc engine has been rebuilt and includes an unleaded cylinder head conversion. Currently, an aftermarket Mountney steering wheel is fitted, the original being present and included in the sale. Also included is an original Austin Mini 'Colour Finishes' pamphlet and an owner’s manual. We are informed that the Cooper, has, at the time of writing, a NOVA certificate, all UK import duties paid with supporting documentation and will arrive at the sale with an MoT test certificate and UK registration. This Mini Cooper is in remarkably well-preserved condition and may be described as in near concours condition. The 997 Cooper Mk. I cars are extremely rare and are the Holy Grail of today’s Mini's movement. We believe, that on inspection, you will agree that this one of the finest examples to be available today.
