Lot 207 - 1989 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Roadster
|Odometer reading||200,000 miles|
|Result||Sold - £19,040|
With the R107 shape Mercedes-Benz, your are very much buying into an image. The style and flair are there in spades married, obviously, to renowned German build-quality. There are many variations on the theme in terms of engine size and the larger the size, generally, the more desirable, the car. And so it is with this ‘Sports Licht’ roadster. The biggest on offer, discounting the USA who had access to a 560 model, was the five litre, V8 engine and it is this well-engineered power plant that can be found under this bonnet today.
With approximately 200,000 miles recorded, this example could well be considered as just ‘run-in’ such is the quality of the engineering. The drivetrain, body and interior are described by the vendor as nine out ten in all respects. Presented with blue paintwork, the contrasting tan interior has recently been refurbished. Interestingly, the first owner is shown as the Mercedes-Benz dealership with the second as the current owner, just two owners in 28 years. The softtop is in good order as is the accompanying hardtop and frame. Offered without reserve, this represents a fabulous opportunity for the next lucky owner.
