The Dino GT4 2+2 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways; it was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the company's business in subsequent decades, and was the first production Ferrari to feature Bertone (rather than Pininfarina) bodywork. The Dino 308 GT4 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in November 1973 and featured angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous 2-seater brother, the Dino 246. The styling was controversial at the time with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make room for the second row of rather small seats. The suspension was fully independent and the V8 engine mounted transversely. The V8 engine was integrally joined with the gearbox and had an alloy cylinder block and heads with twin overhead camshafts. There were two series of GT4; the earlier cars featured a twin distributor engine and fog lamps mounted in the front valance. Later cars had a single distributor engine with fog lamps mounted behind the front grille.

In 1975 Ferrari produced a 2.0 litre engine based on the same V8 twin camshaft configuration of which this is such an example. This Ferrari has only had two former keepers, the previous owner keeping her for 33 years. The silver coachwork is in excellent order as is the matching black interior. This lefthand drive 2+2 is a splendid example and benefits from a full engine rebuild in June 2016 and as such drives with no known faults. These stylish and fun to drive Dino’s have enjoyed an increase in desirability of late; supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate, this handsome example is certainly a fun car to drive and is a perfectly useable example.
