Lot 108 - 1959 Maserati 125GTS
|Estimate||£8,000 - £12,000|
Part of the large industrial concern that included the famous car company, Maserati motorcycle production started in 1953 with the takeover of the Bologna based Italmoto company. A range of both two & four-stroke bikes with capacities from 48cc up to 250cc were produced until manufacture ceased in 1960.
This example is a replica of the 1957 125GT/Super built for privateer use in the 125 F3 class of the Moto Giro. The GTS was made from 1957 to 1959 and this example was initially put together right at the end of that production run. With engine performance of 7.2hp at 6,000rpm and a weight 86kg, top speed was around 108km/h. Found in Italy some years ago in poor condition, it was rescued and restored in 2016. Original Italian documentation is supplied with this lot and the overall condition is reported to be very good indeed.
