The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind-boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was, in fact, a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The Capri was released to the press on 24th January 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show and caused a sensation. For the 1982 model year, a new sporty version debuted at the Geneva Motor Show called the 2.8 Injection. A special twin DOHC version of the 2.9 was created by Cosworth Engineering in 1991. Although it shared the same block as the standard 2.9, power output was up to 195 PS and torque was boosted to 203 lb·ft at 4500 rpm. This engine (code BOA) was used in the Ford Scorpio Cosworth 24V. The engine was known for its substantial increase in power delivery above 4000 rpm relative to the unmodified version; in recent years, the engine has become a popular choice as a replacement engine for the Ford Sierra XR4x4 and XR4i.

This excellent Ford Capri came out of the factory in 1985 as a 2.8i and was used as a normal car; at the end of its road life it was purchased by the previous owner who, a couple of years ago, completely stripped the car down and rebuilt it from the ground up to be a fast track day car and a tribute to the Capri 3.1 X-Pack. The restoration of the bodywork included using an original X-Pack body kit, polycarbonate windows, carbon fiber door cards, roll-cage, Ricardo pro-series race seats, four-point safety harness and Sparco steering wheel. Under the bonnet, the engine has been replaced with a V6 Ford Cosworth 24v BOA unit with Jenvey individual throttle bodies, Omex engine management system and a full Alien exhaust system. This has been married with a T5 gearbox with quick shift and has had a hydraulic clutch conversion, putting the power to the road through a limited slip differential. The brakes have been replaced with AP Racing Pro Scoot calipers, brake discs and racing pedal box. To complete this racing package, the suspension has been replaced all round with fully adjustable Leda coilovers; it is corner weighted, fitted with panhard rods, anti-tramp bars and electric power steering. The wheels are Revolution alloys shod with Toyo Proxie R588 semi slick tyres and the car has a racing battery and oil catch container under the bonnet. This Ford Capri is track ready but would require a full fire extinguisher system and external battery cut out switch fitted to be race eligible and a hand brake system and road tyres fitted to obtain an MoT. This is an opportunity to purchase a fully prepared track day car at a fraction of the cost to build one which could be made road legal or taken to full race mode.
