The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in 1966 on a brand-new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform. Power came from either a 230ci, straight-six engine or a 327ci, V8 engine with a standard three-speed manual transmission Transmissions options included a four-speed manual a two-speed "Powerglide" automatic and a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 automatic.
The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim and was available on any model. The SS performance package consisted of a 350 or 396ci, V8 engine and chassis upgrades for better handling and to deal with the additional power. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging. Very occasionally, it was possible to order both the SS and RS options, making it a RS/SS.

Building on the Super Sport option's special hood with imitation intake bezels, fender stripes, F41 special suspension and special trim, the 'Rally Sport' package confers the car's distinctive hideaway headlights, bright roof drip rails and wheel-arch trim, RS nameplates, black rear panel, bright tail light trim and valence-mounted backup lights.
Purposeful but comfortable, the black interior incorporates the wood-grain trim, passenger-assist handle and bright pedal trim of the Z23 Special Interior, in this case supplemented with a tachometer, centre console, chromed Hurst shifter and special instrumentation. The Camaro's muscular appearance is further enhanced with colour-matching painted steel wheels with chromed dog-dish caps and Goodyear Polyglas F70-15 white-letter tires, front and rear spoilers and bumper guards. Of the 12 engine options offered in the 1969 Camaro line-up, this benefits from the date-correct 396/375 HP V8. It features 11.0:1 compression, forged internals, solid-lifter cam, a Holley four-barrel on a Winters aluminium intake and chromed air cleaner and valve covers. This big block V8 is equipped with aluminium heads and teamed with a Muncie four-speed manual gearbox pushing power to a 3.08:1-geared Positraction 12-bolt third member, its clout harnessed by power steering and power front disc brakes.
Totally correct and in concours condition, this RS/SS is the holy grail of Camaros. This is simply one of the best restoration works we have ever seen and would cost in excess of the guide price to perform just the restoration work alone.
