The Lancia Fulvia was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963 and produced until 1976. Fulvias are notable for their role in motorsport history including winning the International Rally Championship in 1972. On testing it in 1967, Road & Track summed up the Fulvia as "a precision motorcar, an engineering tour de force". The Fulvia was available in three variants: Berlina four-door saloon, two-door coupé, and Sport, an alternative fastback coupé designed and built by Zagato on the coupé floor-pan. Introduced in 1967 with the 1,298cc (87bhp) engine, the Zagato was later offered with the 1600cc, 115bhp HF unit, a sparkling combination with a top speed approaching 120mph. A five-speed gearbox was standard equipment from 1971. Production ceased after Zagato had manufactured around 7,000 cars, a mere 800 of which were the ultimate 1600cc version. Lighter and nimbler than the standard-bodied cars, the Sport distinguished itself in competition, particularly in long distance events. Fulvia Sport Zagato’s scored highly in the Sebring 12 Hours and Daytona 24 Hours (where a Sport earned a class win in 1969). Ex-works HF rally cars aside, the Sport Zagato is the most desirable and collectible of all the Fulvias and undeniably one of the most striking designs of its era.
This rare, one of seventy-four righthand drive 1600cc Lancia Fulvia Sports by Zagato was supplied new with the five-speed gearbox, electric windows, electric rear door and sunroof. This car was purchased by the vendor two years ago to carry out a complete restoration to the car. This completely rust free example has just had £1,600 spent on it to make sure that everything on it is working; this included a service, re-cored radiator, new front shock absorbers and new window motors. Requiring a cosmetic restoration, it is reported that it runs and drives well. Finished in silver with the original black cloth interior, this 1600 Sport by Zagato is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires at the end of May 2018, recent invoices and two workshop manuals. This is a very rare opportunity to purchase an original righthand drive, 1600cc Lancia Fulvia Sports by Zagato which was supplied new to the UK. These period coach built motor cars are becoming more and more sought after. What better way to enter such ownership than with this beautifully styled Italian motor car which is available at a very reasonable estimate.
