Lot 175 - 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1
|Odometer reading||91,584 miles|
|Estimate||£18,000 - £22,000|
The Ford Escort RS Turbo was based on the three-door Ford Escort saloon and was supplied in a Diamond White body colour only. The engine fitted to the RS Turbo was a 1600 CVH unit modified to suit the higher loads and the application of a turbocharger. Computerised fuel injection and engine management incorporating turbocharger boost control were also fitted. Aesthetically, the RS Turbo was given a distinctive sporty appearance with a body coloured front grill, bumpers and aerodynamic aids. On the tailgate, an XR3i spoiler (also body coloured) was fitted together with 'RS Turbo' decals. The interior was trimmed in a combination of Monza and Cashmere fabrics and XR3i-type Recaro LS bucket seats were fitted as standard. Production was limited to only 5,000 examples and many were modified in period for racing.
This delightfully restored and rare example of the Ford RS Turbo has been sourced from a fast Ford enthusiast who has maintained the car regardless of cost. Finished in Diamond White, it was first registered in January 1986 to its owner in Tunbridge Wells and listed from new as a Escort 3DR F1 Turbo Custom; we believe this is due to the sunroof option, electric windows and opening rear quarter windows that were not found as standard.
Still boasting its original Ford radio, all dealer booklets and owner's manuals, this car was fully restored in 2008 and detailed by the then owner; works included new inner and outer wings, sills, floors and arches before coating in 2k primer and finishing in its original colour. The process was fully photographed and documented in the history file. The underside was then Wax Oiled and new carpets and sound deadening applied as well as a new dashboard. The engine is as original apart from a few personal touches such as a chrome rocker cover and new leads but otherwise everything under the bonnet is standard as is the original gearbox. The history shows recent bills and care combined with the original service booklet with no less than 16 entries including a recent service and new MoT test certificate until June 2018. This is a genuine opportunity to purchase every 80's schoolboy's dream car and a rare treat to find one in such fine condition.
