Originally intended to replace the company's iconic 911, the 928 attempted to combine the power, poise and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort and equipment of a luxury saloon. The body, styled by Wolfgang Möbius under guidance of Anatole Lapine, was mainly of galvanized steel but the doors, bonnet and boot were made of aluminium to save weight. Polyurethane elastic bumpers were integrated into the nose and tail and covered in body-coloured plastic; an unusual feature for the time that was intended as both a styling feature and to reduce drag. In 1980, the 928S was introduced with a larger 4.7 litre engine and wider wheels and tyres, whilst in 1987, the engine displacement was further increased to 4957cc with the introduction of the, now highly desirable 928 S4.
First registered on 23rd January, 1987, this UK righthand drive 928 S, with automatic gearbox, is an early example of the S4 model with flip up rear spoiler. It is presented in its unusual, but original, metallic Lagoon Green (may appear blue) with an interior that has been upgraded to cream leather and complimented by the D90 928GT wheels and GTS mirrors. In fact, this Porsche has had upgrades and refurbishment totaling over £25,000 over the past two years. There is a large file of invoices documenting these works carried out by leading 928 specialists that include; a rebuilt 4957cc engine using a strengthened cylinder block, an upgraded suspension including torque tube, improved steering, brakes and geometry dynamics correctly set to improve the handling. In addition, Ritech Engineering have rebuilt and upgraded the climate control and various electrical and maintenance works have been completed to keep all systems working well. The vendor informs us that his objective was to make this 928 a fast, reliable, good looking and usable car without cost restraints and, we are informed, drives very well, having been in regular daily use as well as providing transport on extended trips in the UK, to France, Belgium, Germany and Scotland. This Porsche 928 is complete with a UK V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 26th September, 2017 and is fitted with a modern radio, Bluetooth car kit and Bluetooth iPod/phone connectivity. Recent independent advice strongly suggests buying a 928 with plenty spent on it over the past few years is advisable and so this could be that car.
