Lot 172 - 1995 Ferrari 456GT

Introduced at Garage Francorchamps, Belgium in 1992, the 456 was Ferrari's attempt to produce a motor car that was somewhat different from their usual offerings. The idea was to generate the space and comfort of a Gran Turismo (GT) whilst being the most powerful 2+2 in the world. The 456 GT incorporated features familiar to generations of Ferrari cognoscenti with the front-mounted four-cam V12, rear transaxle, tubular steel space frame chassis, and all-independent suspension remaining, whilst an electronically-controlled adaptive suspension and a six-speed gearbox made its first appearance. Power was supplied via the nearly 450 horsepower V12 that produced a massive 398 ft-lb of torque at 4,500rpm. Variable-ratio power steering, three-way adjustable suspension dampening, self-levelling rear ride height and a speed-activated rear spoiler ensure the handling is up to the performance. The interior was well appointed with features you expect from a luxury motor car. Aerodynamically efficient with a subtly beautiful curvaceous body, the 456 remained stable up to its maximum speed of around 190mph, a figure that made it the world's fastest production four-seater passenger car.
This fine example has been owned by the vendor since 2013, prior to which, it had sadly been neglected as part of a disputed divorce case for a few years. It was then rescued and much time and financial input was expended with ‘Autolink’ in Newcastle, a favourite for Ferrari Owners Club members in the North East. Serviced regularly at 6,250 (JCT600), 12,500, 18,750 and 25,000 at Specialist Cars in Knutsford (including cam belts @25,000) with a subsequent service at 39,531 miles at Meridien Modena in Hampshire.
Works included brand new tyres all round, a full gearbox re-build with new bearings, gearbox out and checked, brake lines replaced where required and brake discs and pads checked and good all round. A new radiator was fabricated, the clutch was examined with the gearbox out and the clutch plate re-lined, alternator inspected and re-built. The rear parcel shelf was also re-leathered and to fully finish the car, a re-spray was undertaken to restore the car to its current condition. Another service will be undertaken prior to the sale including spark plugs, all belts and fluids etc. as well a new MoT test. These highly accomplished touring sportscars are extremely competent and can carry a family of four with ease. It is important however, when buying a V12 Ferrari, to be happy with its mechanical integrity and this has certainly had much attention in recent years. The private number-plate is also included in the sale.
