Lot 264 - 1988 BMW 520i Lux
|Odometer reading||39,000 miles|
|Result||Sold - £4,816|
Introduced in June 1981, the second generation BMW 5-Series (E28) was visually indebted to its Paul Bracq styled predecessors. Boasting a shortened wheelbase and lower stance, its four-door monocoque bodyshell was equipped with all round independent suspension (Macpherson strut front/semi-trailing arm rear) and power assisted worm and roller steering. Available with a choice of punchy four or six-cylinder engine, the E28 was a suitably sporty alternative to the Mercedes-Benz W123 range. Updated in 1985 with a revised version of BMW's renowned M20 six-cylinder unit, the 520i proved a continual best seller.
Described by the vendor as a time-warp example, this 520i Lux, presented in unmarked red coachwork with black trim, has covered a staggering 39,000 miles from new, something of a miracle given that the 5-Series BMW has always been a firm favourite with any motorway mile cruncher. We are informed that there is no rust found throughout the car and that it would take pride of place at any enthusiast or club meet. The history file boasts a full comprehensive service history and this example is offered with a full one year MoT test certificate. With BMW's now becoming a firm favourite on the modern classic car scene, this is certainly a rare find and viewing is essential to appreciate the condition of this car.
