Venturi Automobiles built mid-engine sports cars in France under the name of MVS (Manufacture de Voitures de Sport). The first Venturi came out in 1984, created by Claude Poiraud and Gérard Godfroy, two former engineers at Heuliez. The goal was to present the only 'Grand Tourisme' French car capable of competing with the French Bugatti, the Italian Ferrari and the German Porsche. The headquarters of the company were located in Couëron, Pays de Loire, where almost 750 cars were produced over a 20 year period. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, they manufactured coupés and roadsters with turbocharged PRV engines and Renault gearboxes. Although a limited number production run of the 200 series arrived on British shores, the Venturi name is firmly stamped upon the French subconscious. The design is of classic proportions with attention paid to shut lines, build quality, interior trim and performance. With fully adjustable electric seats, a full leather interior and walnut dashboard, the interior is a very special place to be. Double wish bones, Koni shocks and springs equip the corners; they are expensive options but welcome ones as this is very much a driver's car.
Originally registered on 12th May 1988, this righthand drive Venturi was the third righthand drive example produced by the French manufacturer. Having covered only 38,500 kilometres since new, this 200 coupé is in splendid condition. The chassis and bodywork are in excellent order and the paintwork appears to be original. Re-commissioned recently after a period of some four years, E249DNA now benefits from new tyres, refurbished wheels, lubricants changed, new spark plugs and the injectors have been cleaned; we are advised she runs very well. With a 2458cc V6 turbocharged Renault engine, this Venturi will certainly perform with alacrity. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 22nd December 2017, this stylish coupé, with its sumptuous leather interior, is an opportunity to acquire a tangible and very useable asset that is sure to continue to appreciate in value.
