Lot 240 - 1998 Fiat Barchetta
|Odometer reading||155,220 km|
|Result||Sold - £3,080|
The Fiat type 176 Barchetta was Fiat's re-entry to the convertible or spider car market and a challenge to the popular Mazda MX5 from Japan. With distinctive styling that can be traced back to the 1949 Ferrari 166MM, production began at the Maggiora plant close to Turin in 1995 and, due to the lack of a spray shop, were painted at Bertone's plant and then returned for final assembly. Built on the Fiat Punto floor pan and fitted with the 1,747cc twin over-head cam engine with Fiat's variable valve timing, these engines are very reliable as well as lively and responsive. With a firm chassis and very good panel fit, these hand assembled sports cars are great fun to drive and have what must be the easiest and quickest hood to put up or down. Production ceased at the Maggiora factory in 2002 and production was moved to Fiats Mirafiori plant, where a face lift model or phase II was built until 2005.
The vehicle on offer today is showing just over 155,000km (approximately 96,350 miles) and is finished in Grigio Steel and comes with the comfort pack of electric mirrors, leather interior, electric aerial, central locking and passenger air bag. With excellent paint work complemented by green tinted windows and five spoke alloy wheels, it is plain to see that this vehicle has been well looked after. It comes with the all important red key as well as two other Fiat keys, the electric code, mechanical code card and the security code card. There are also a substantial amount of service and work invoices dating back to 2004, with invoices for a cambelt change as well as a clutch change and stainless steel exhaust, several old MoT test certificates dating back to 2002 as well as the original Certificato di Conformità from Fiat Auto S.P.A. and original sales brochures. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 15th March 2017; this car is offered for sale with no reserve.
