Lot 226 - 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 S
|Registration||9699 RE 51|
|Estimate||£7,000 - £12,000|
Premièred at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1965, the initial model line-up of the W 108 consisted of the 250 S, 250 SE, and 300 SE, as well as a sole W 109, the 300 SEL. Engines for the new car were carried over from the previous generation, but enlarged and refined. The 250 S was the entry-level vehicle fitted with a 2496 cm³ Straight-six M108 engine, with two dual downdraft carburettors, delivering 130 bhp at 5400 rpm which accelerated the car to 62 mph in 13 seconds and gave a top speed of 113 mph. Approximately 130,000 of the 250 S/SE models were built during the first two years of the W 108/109's existence.
This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 S saloon is in remarkable condition given its 50 years of age and although, largely original, has very little signs of its maturity. The tan interior is complete and in good condition as is the black coach work and chrome. This example has spent its recent years in France and dry stored. We are assure it is mechanically good; starts, runs and should be entirely reliable with the vendor having recently MoT'd the car for any new prospective buyers. Currently French registered, this car is offered with a NOVA certificate so registering the car for the UK will be as simple as applying for a new V5. With a good history file, this represents a very good original example of the ever popular early Mercedes-Benz saloon.
