Lot 311 - 1958 Maserati 450 S Recreation
|Estimate||£78,000 - £86,000|
|Result||Sold - £87,360|
In the history of Maserati, the 450 S Barchetta has been one of the most fascinating of all racing machines. Very powerful with a great chassis, the car had successes, although it could be a little temperamental on the track. With just 10 cars produced, the 450 S was all the more fascinating since its association with a certain brilliant Argentinian driver. Having successfully raced in the 1950s and 1960s, Néstor Salerno participated twice in the 1000 Km of Buenos Aires (with a Ferrari 212 and a Maserati 300 S), and then became part of the official Lancia team. He then started manufacturing replicas of the racing cars with excellent results, amongst which was the Maserati 450 S.
This superb Maserati recreation is true to the original and is based on the legendary Pocholo Ramirez car. Ramirez was Asia`s greatest Formula 1 driver and this car has been built to a very high standard, remaining true to the original drawings of the Maserati 450 S.
Registered as a 1958 Maserati Historic Vehicle with a V5C document confirming this.
The car is built on a tubular space frame, panelled in 3003 aluminium and finished in aircraft grade enamel paint. The engine is a 4,933cc Maserati quadcam V8 with four downdraft twin choke 45 DCNF carburettors, all this is mated to a four speed transaxle gearbox. This car offers power, noise and speed in abundance. A delightful car, exquisitely handsome and representing good value taking into account one of the original 10 cars manufactured will set you back over £4,000,000.
