Lot 303 - 1999 Bentley Continental R by Mulliner Park Ward *WITHDRAWN*
|Odometer reading||16,720 miles|
|Estimate||£70,000 - £78,000|
From its motor car production in 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous with prestige, performance and luxury. The 'Continental' designation recalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The 'R' was meant to recall the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as the Turbo R of the 1980s. This series boasts the most powerful engine after the Continental T and has a power output of 420bhp and a maximum torque of 650 ft-lb. The car could be pushed to a staggering top speed of some 170mph. Bentley's 1980s resurgence relied exclusively on models whose basic architecture was shared with other Rolls-Royce models however; the Bentley Continental R was unique to the Bentley marque. Despite the need to incorporate non-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, the result looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one re-stated for the 1990s and beyond.
This wide-bodied Continental R is finished in Silver Tempest with St. James interior and could only be described as a superb vehicle in every aspect. The coachwork shows no sign of any blemishes and the interior is in superb order, the leather being complimented by black carpets and top roll, the walnut dashboard adding the final touches to this sumptuous interior. The Bentley has been very well looked after, having covered a mere 16,720 miles since its registration 17 years ago. Aesthetically, a Continental R is a beautiful design but this example is further enhanced by the fitment of a chrome radiator grille and wide-body courtesy of Mulliner Park Ward, in addition to this the fitment of front wing vents and Continental T wheels. Supplied originally by Jack Barclay in London, this Bentley comes with a V5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate, this represents excellent value in comparison to the price it was when new. To drive a Continental R is a memorable experience; this car represents an opportunity to acquire an extremely fine example of a superb motorcar.
