This impressive Sunbeam Alpine Series 3 has lead an interesting and eclectic existence from road car specification, to race and now to fast road specification. A rare hard top GT with an even rarer soft top, this example was first restored in 1989 for classic racing and hill climbs to an extremely good standard and has been an ongoing labour of love ever since. Most recently, it was purchased from a former track racer, who in his seven years ownership race prepared this alpine, attended and raced at meetings across Europe with a degree of success.

In order to be competitive, a race prepared 1725cc Coltec Engine with twin 40 Webers combined with a 4 speed Gearbox and 3/4 overdrive was prepared along with up rated suspension, brakes and steering. Since its purchase, the current vendor has returned the car to the road. Mechanically, the suspension brakes and steering have been checked and reset due to previous use on the track. The head has been re-skimmed and a new gasket set has been fitted, combined with new plugs suitable for the road, as originally hot running plugs were used. Finally, the tappets have been reset and the engine tuned. In the vendor's own words, "This Alpine goes fast", due to the Coltec engine and Weber set up combined with being 100llbs lighter than the Tiger option V8, "This will eat tigers for breakfast", hence the nickname. We recommend to potential suitors to review Coltec and their pedigree with engine builds on www.coltecracing.com

A very impressive box of service history records accompanies the car dating back to 1972 and since 1989 dated in order of invoices, events and any point of interest. Original hand book, Rootes manuals, repair manuals, photographs, notes, letters and other various pieces of memorabilia can also be found within the history file. Also included are several boxes of spare parts and a second set of Minilite wheels with slick tyres fitted.

In 2015, this GT has benefited from a full re-spray in its correct and original Gold, the roof in race gloss Black and a re-trim of seats combined with replacement of rear seat panels. A couple of modern additions have also been sympathetically fitted; an alternative heater, fan and light controls and an iPod connection to supply music to the footwell speaker system. A new MoT will accompany this Alpine which is truly a one off example sure to put a smile on any Sunbeam or classic sports car enthusiasts face. Viewing is highly recommended, as is a significant time set aside to review the extensive history.
