In 1989, Mercedes Benz introduced the fourth generation SL model, the R129, which was supplied in Europe with several engine options and named accordingly. The specification was high with electric windows, mirrors, seats, roof and host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers and front airbags. The R129 model was the first convertible/roadster to offer the automatic roll-bar deployment in event of rollover, although the motorist could also manually raise and lower the roll-bar should he choose to thus facilitating the clean look of the R129 without compromising the occupant's safety. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car.
A remarkably low mileage 280 R129 SL, this example in beautiful condition, is presented in burgundy with cream leather trim and boasts just three owners from new. This Roadster benefits from the optional hard top and a very high specification despite being the smaller more nimble 280 SL. With an MoT test certificate valid until June 2017 and in such great condition, this genuine low mileage is a future classic that will put a smile on anyone's face when driving with the top down this summer.
