Lot 326 - 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SE
|Odometer reading||85,000 miles|
|Result||Sold - £5,376|
The first 'S-class' Mercedes-Benz arrived in 1968 in the form of the 280S and 280SE which were large comfortable sports saloons offering powerful touring capabilities and luxurious interiors with space to seat five occupants. Known as W108/109 models, they were constructed on a 108" wheelbase and the new S-Class saloons were much heavier than earlier models. The styling was updated using a thoroughly modern design featuring the attractive stacked layout of the headlights which was popular during the period. Although the 280 was usually powered by a 2.8 litre, straight six engine, Mercedes-Benz added a V8 engined 280SE to the model range.
This beautifully original 280SE has covered 85,000 miles from new and has been kept, maintained and driven responsibly throughout its 44 years. Despite the original paint showing some patina, the whole car can be considered a time warp example of the fantastically constructed luxury saloons of the 1970's. The chrome work is in good order throughout as is the tan interior. The vendor states the car drives well and is supported by a strong history file. Offered with a US certificate of title, Florida bill of sale, the HM Revenue & Customs import clearance document coupled with service booklet and handbooks, this recently re-commissioned example represents fantastic value.
