Lot 328 - 1968 Ford Escort Twin-Cam
|Estimate||£38,000 - £45,000|
|Result||Sold - £43,680|
Ford's successes with the Lotus Cortina led to the idea of fitting the mechanics into the Escort resulting in the Escort Twin-Cam being born and becoming one of Ford's most famous production cars. This unassuming saloon packed enough punch in their day to propel Ford's Competitions Department to the top of its game with the Twin-Cam achieving many international race and rally victories during its short production life between 1968 and 1971. In total, just 883 Escort Twin-Cams were built before production ended to make way for the RS1600.
Believed to have been delivered new to Norway in March 1968, this rare Twin-Cam made its way south to Switzerland before being restored to the fine condition that it is presented in today. It remained in Switzerland until 2015 whereupon it was imported to the UK where it has been registered and is offered with a V5C document and a current MoT test certificate with no advisories valid until 3rd November 2016. A dating letter from AVO Owners Club and owner's handbook are further additions to the file. Finished in Ermine White (nearly all Twin-Cams were) with a contrasting black interior, this lovely example of this fast-appreciating model is estimated sensibly in today's market. With only 883 hand built Mk. I Escorts produced it is rare that a Twin-Cam of this quality comes onto the open market. The original fast Ford.
