The 308GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 and was built alongside the 308GT4 and designed as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fiorvanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferrari's including the Daytona, the new 308 sported a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years of production, the body of the 308 was produced in fibreglass after which steel was used.  The 308 shared a similar tube frame chassis as the original Dino and 308GT4 with four wheel double wishbone independent suspension. The engine was a V8 unit which was positioned behind the driver and was transversely mounted with double overhead camshafts and four 40DCNF Weber carburettors latterly replaced with Bosch K Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. 

This excellent, righthand drive carburettor 308 GTS is one of the rare 184 supplied new in the UK, was first registered in January 1981 and has only had five owners. Supplied in Argento Auteuil with blue leather, air conditioning, 7.5″ wide Campagnolo alloys, it maintains the same original specification today. The history file on this car is amongst the most comprehensive we have ever seen and includes the original order and sales invoice, Certification of Authenticity, chronological file itemising every Ferrari service, invoices from 1982 to present, original service book and service stamps, mileage verification documents including old MoT test certificates, previous owner declarations along with the original handbooks and wallet. 

Maintenance has been continual at Ferrari dealers or specialists with thousands of pounds invested in maintaining it in this stunning condition. A precautionary mechanical engine and gearbox rebuild was carried out 8,000 miles ago in 2010 by a renowned Ferrari specialist. A full inspection report and cambelt service at Rardley Motors was also carried out in May and is available to be viewed in the file along with a MoT test certificate valid until May 2017. The 308 carburettor model is one of the most classical shapes produced by Ferrari in the 1970s and 1980s with this example representing one of the finest on the market and refreshing to see it finished in its original silver colour scheme.
