The 356 Speedster has long occupied a small but perfectly formed slot in the Porsche hall of fame, particularly in America where it fused post-war Teutonic efficiency with Fifties glam Americana. It was Porsche's US importer who suggested the idea; a simple, no frills take on the then current 356 model ideally suited to the sun-kissed environment of California. To market the car at a more affordable price, Porsche stripped all unnecessary comforts from within, fitted bucket seats (and not much else) and gave it the bare minimum of weather protection. The result was not only a distinctive and hugely popular car but also one that, thanks to its keen power to weight ratio, was often to be found in minor sports car races on the weekends. Jump forward a few decades and a more up to date version appeared using the next legendary model nomenclature. The 911 Speedster, a low-roof version of the Cabriolet, was produced in limited numbers (2,104) starting in January 1989 until July 1989 as both a narrow body car and a turbo-look.

This two owner, Carrera wide-body Speedster was first registered in July 1989 and clearly purchased and maintained irrespective of cost.  One of just 12 delivered to Australia, this vehicle was purchased by an avid collector and as seen from the original order sheet it was ordered as a Turbo-bodied Speedster.  Much to the purchaser's disappointment, the supplying Porsche dealer was unable to supply the vehicle with the 'Flatnose' as he wanted. This was due to certain homologation restrictions in Australia at the time. To overcome this, at great expense, he commissioned a bodywork specialist to carry out the task of creating what we see today to Porsche's exacting standards. An abundance of service history resides within the history file together with a letter from the company confirming the work carried out and also invoices of the original parts that were all sourced from Porsche.

The bodywork and paint on this Speedster have been maintained to a very high standard and it is evident that the condition of the interior has been kept as well as the exterior. The upgraded black leather RS sport seats have a retail value of circa £4,000 each alone; however the original seats and 911 impact bumpers are also included with the sale. The RUF Porsche wheels are an extremely expensive option and, as with the bodywork and interior, are in fantastic condition.

The service history schedule has been stamped and kept up to date to a remarkable standard and detailed here:

This is accompanied by further history which we believe renders this Speedster not only unique but one of the best examples left on the market today, representing a fantastic opportunity for any collector or Porsche enthusiast.

Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Buyers are advised to inspect the car in person or use a professional to carry out this service.
