Lot 259 - 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL Roadster
|Odometer reading||96,320 miles|
|Estimate||£10,000 - £15,000|
|Result||Sold - £18,200|
Introduced in early 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car
replaced the 280 SL; the body and chassis of the 3rd generation SL
considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still
showing a slight resemblance. The standard transmission provided a
top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds.
As with the previous generation SLs, the vehicle came as an open
roadster with removable hardtop roof. The R 107 body shape
went on to become one of the longest running styles from
Mercedes-Benz, remaining in production until 1989 with some 13
variants during the production run.
This stunning example of Mercedes-Benz's 'Little Black Dress' is presented in near faultless Petrol Blue metallic with re-trimmed cream leather interior, having been subject to a very high standard cosmetic restoration by Automo of Taplow, Berkshire in early 2015. This roadster not only has the engine and chassis to boast about, but is also complemented by an almost fully-stamped service history; the last recorded just 20 miles ago through an independent Mercedes-Benz specialist which included an MoT test certificate valid until August 2016. Upon closer inspection we see that this vehicle has the rare and unusual option of heated seats and exterior temperature gauge, desirable fitted rear bench seats and the all important hard top. Clearly an exceptional example of these very popular vehicles, this beautiful Roadster, offered with a great history, the reassurance of extensive professional cosmetic works and a very appealing colour combination is sure to be a very popular drop-top among our auction attendees.
