Lot 236 - 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (3.2 Litre)
|Odometer reading||85,000 miles|
|Estimate||£33,000 - £39,000|
The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacement for the much loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design; rear-engined and with independent rear suspension, an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled until the introduction of the type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in 1963, it has undergone continual development although the basic concept has remained little changed. In 1973, the Carrera name was re-introduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950's. The RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae which demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. The most notable advances in 1984 were the introduction of the 3.2 litre engine. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974; the bold statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
This righthand drive 1985 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet was supplied new by Horwells Motors in Cardiff and has since remained fully serviced and maintained. Repainted within the last ten years, the car has recently been serviced and checked through at a cost of over £2,500; it has only covered 400 miles since. Finished in guards red with cream leather interior, this Carrera Cabriolet is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in October 2016, two sets of keys, the original handbook and service book pack and a comprehensive file containing MoT certificates and invoices which confirm the 85,000 miles from new. With the soft top offering open air motoring and with the Porsche reputation for reliability, this is a rare opportunity to buy a practical righthand drive classic Porsche which has been much loved and cared for throughout its life.
