It is always a pleasure to offer a motor car that ticks all of the desirability boxes and so it is with this TR5 on offer today. Originally supplied to James Edwards Limited of Cheshire on 9th May 1968, the TR was later sold to a Mr. Donald Tarbet in November 1968 who used the car until 1973 by which time 74,000 miles had been accumulated. For reasons upon which may only be speculated; such as the 1973 fuel crisis (unused fuel vouchers from that period are still with the TR), the car was laid up for the next 30 years until it was discovered in 2003 and an extensive professional body-off restoration was undertaken.

When the restoration began, the body tub was found to be in mostly good order; any badly corroded and pitted panels were replaced with genuine Stanpart contemporary items. The chassis was restored with minor additional strengthening by CTM Engineering (CTM). The restoration was completed to return the car to its original 1968 specification as delivered from the factory including engine detailing but with enhancements for driving and economy on today's roads.  The engine was rebuilt and balanced with lightened flywheel and the gearbox, final drive and suspension were also rebuilt.  Various upgrades have been incorporated for comfort, safety and reliability with most of the original items retained so that the TR may be put back to its factory state at anytime. These upgrades include Bosch fuel pump and modern PVR, aluminium long range fuel tank, telescopic damper conversion (front Spax - rear CTM Koni), Kenlow fan, Phoenix six branch exhaust manifold with sports exhaust system, high torque starter motor, uprated heater, alternator, suspension and brakes, wheel arch liners by CTM, electronic ignition, oil cooler, leather seats with headrests (designed for the TR), Mota-Lita steering wheel, painted wire wheels and a high level LED brake light. Importantly, the original equipment retained includes the exhaust manifold, steel disc wheels with Rostyle trims, the rare original steering wheel, lever arm dampers, original seats, alternator and starter motor.

Presented in its correct and supplied colours of Valencia Blue with white screens and hardtop, this UK righthand drive supplied and registered TR also comes with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate confirming that this is a matching engine/chassis number motor car with its original equipment of fuel injected 2.5 litre engine, overdrive, hard top (with removable hard top factory supplied in white and soft centre section with frame) and heater!  In addition, the history file contains the original green log book which confirms that the last keeper recorded on it is also recorded on the current V5 registration document, being the previous keeper to the current owner; therefore, there are three recorded keepers in total. The TR was built to be used regularly throughout the year on international tours and covers approximately 2-3,000 miles annually. Its high standard and reliability were confirmed on a recent test by performing and handling exceptionally well and receiving comments such as "the best TR5 I've experienced" from the tester.

Featured in the editorial on the front cover of Classic Cars magazine in February 2009, this, the most desirable of the Michelotti TRs, is today certainly testament to the standard of the restoration completed nearly 10 years ago and is offered with a most tempting estimate.
