Lot 239 - 1975 Triumph TR6
|Odometer reading||19,419 miles|
|Estimate||£23,000 - £28,000|
|Result||Sold - £29,680|
The Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years from 1969 and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market, the engine was fitted with carburettors, whilst for other world markets including the UK, the TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. It featured a four-speed manual transmission and an optional equipment overdrive unit was a desirable feature giving drivers close-gearing for spirited driving whilst remaining an excellent touring car for open motorways.
This TR6 was originally supplied by Hollingdrake in Bolton on 8th May 1975. In recent years the car has resided in Monaco and is still registered on the Monaco registration plates; the previous UK registration number was HRV 788N. The vendor has said that he will apply for the UK registration document immediately the car is sold. Finished in Mimosa with black interior, this Triumph is in superb condition and has covered a mere 19,419 miles in its 40 years on the road. The engine ran delightfully smooth and quietly during our appraisal and our road test confirmed this to be of exceptional quality with no knocks or bumps from the suspension as is often the case with these cars. The fuel metering unit has been changed to run on unleaded fuel, although the cylinder head remains in its original condition and as such will require a fuel additive. Supplied with a Heritage certificate and a history file, this Triumph TR6 was featured in Classic Cars magazine in December 2008. In time warp condition, this car has never been restored and even has an eight-track stereo system fitted. We are advised a hardtop is supplied although this was not available when the car was inspected. Without doubt one of the very best TR6s we have seen and with warranted mileage, this example really needs to be seen to be appreciated.
