This is not a Mercedes-Benz saloon.
This represents a marriage between Satan, AMG and Jeremy Clarkson. It is a beautifully packaged and ridiculous collection of power, sumptuous comfort and noise, but to fully understand this motorcar, it is important to acquaint oneself with a fact or two. According to the UK Sales figures, just 35-40 CL65s were officially sold in Great Britain between 2004 and 2005 and in fact only 777 were produced worldwide, with pre-existing customers invited to purchase.
It houses the same engine as the Maybach 57 and 62 'S' models. Nice.
Until you also learn that it is the same layout as fitted to the current Pagani Huayra supercar. And that is very shouty indeed.
There is 1,000nm of torque produced from the engine, detuned from 1,200nm in order to protect the gearbox. It pushes out 603bhp and costs, in Germany, €204,000 or £142,453.20 in this country, to be precise.
This rare, low mileage, example has, appropriately, been cherished by its owner. The last service took place in December, 2014 as did the MoT test - with no advisories and with a full service history, the last of which by Mercedes-Benz Ascot. It is a superb place to sit with all conceivable electronic aids to ones fingertips and the power to light up the tyres, when required, from standstill until Scotland.
The split-rim alloy wheels require some light refurbishment but the overall condition of the paintwork is good throughout with a fitted CL cover also supplied. At a fraction of its original asking price, this has all the power and the glory you could ask for- neatly presently in a Savile Row suit.
