The Porsche 911 was developed as a much more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for the Porsche 356, the company's first model and essentially a sporting evolution of the Volkswagen Beetle. The new car made its public debut at the 1963 Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, better known to English speakers as the Frankfurt Motor Show. After 11 years in production, the 911 received its first serious facelift. In line with the times, the visual changes radically altered the way it looked - all in the name of US safety legislation. The 1974 model was nothing less than a step-change in direction for the 911 which was now becoming a much more civilised car to own. 1974 saw the introduction of calmer engines which produced lower power but more torque and were fuel injected by Bosch for smoother, cleaner and more economical running.
This excellent Porsche 911 Targa was with the last owner for the last nine years who began a restoration. The vendor acquired the car earlier this year and had to complete the cosmetic restoration to the original specification including being repainted, new wheels and tyres, refurbished targa top and a new tartan interior supplied by Porsche. This 911 Targa is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in May 2016, the service book and a file with a few invoices. Porsches from this period are becoming sought after and are rising in value; this is a good investment for the future.
