Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack, as well as the pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and the newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970.

This 1977 Triumph Stag was used by Dennis Waterman playing Gerry Standing in the television programme, New Tricks, as the 'hero car'. Being owned by a specialist film hire company, this car has been fully maintained to make sure that it would be reliable when at the film shoots. Purchased by them in July 2005, this car has been in a number of television programmes and films and featured in New Tricks episode nine in 2009. Finished in green with matching hard top and tan interior, this 1977 Triumph Stag is supplied with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expires in February. Requiring some cosmetic restoration, this Stag could be used and enjoyed as it is and restored over a period of time. These Triumphs are becoming more collectable and quite often, the classic cars that have featured in a film or TV show become as famous as the lead characters themselves.
