Lot 229 - 1975 Porsche 914 Targa
|Odometer reading||88,928 miles|
|Estimate||£5,000 - £7,000|
|Result||Sold - £10,080|
This Porsche 914 Targa offered today was imported into the UK some years ago from California. In more recent times it was owned and looked after by the well respected Porsche specialist, Dave Dennett, proprietor of DSD Motorwerks, Billericay, Essex and purchased from him by the current owner. The 914 is presented with fully colour coded black (factory L401) coachwork that, although displaying some small blemishes, looks attractive and is especially complimented by a set of genuine Fuch wheels; it is worth noting that to fit these wheels, a Porsche 911 five stud hub conversion is required and has been carried out to good effect on this car. The chassis number prefix of 475 denotes that this is a flat four 914 manufactured in 1975 and the engine, of 1700cc capacity, is mated to the dog-leg, five-speed gearbox; these 914 gearboxes are reminiscent of the early Porsche 911s. On the inside, the blue/black interior looks very smart with excellent seats still in their original covers, however, the dash top is cracked but this common problem has been smartly resolved by the fitting of a Californian dashboard cover. A non-standard sports steering wheel is fitted, nicely finishing off the interior. The Targa top is easily removed for those sunny days and is easily stowed above luggage in the rear boot compartment. On the road this 914 drives and handles very well and happily sits at 70mph on the motorway.
The 914, so long overlooked, is now being appreciated for its compact mid engine design and capability especially considering that the performance may be taken to a higher level of tune quite easily. With 911 prices disappearing out of sight for many, these little Porsches are now attracting the interest they deserve. This 914 will arrive with a fresh MoT test certificate and although not a concourse contender, it is very solid and still looks smart enabling a new owner to enjoy Porsche ownership with pride.
