Lot 214 - 1956 Morris Minor Split Screen Convertible
|Odometer reading||30,042 miles|
|Estimate||£4,000 - £6,000|
|Result||Sold - £6,440|
This 1956 Morris Minor Split Screen Convertible was purchased by the current lady owner in August 2009. Known as 'Maggie', this late series II Minor convertible has only covered approximately 450 miles in the ensuing years and in that time, Maggie has only been used occasionally and on dry days. The coachwork is finished in dark grey and, although not a concours finish, is in good order with only a few minor blemishes. The hood and interior trim were both replaced in 2006 and compliment the grey exterior. The undersides appear to be excellent; in fact, we are informed that on the last MoT test, the tester commented that this was the finest he had seen. The original 803cc engine has been replaced at some point during its life with the later 948 Morris unit that gives it a little extra 'oomph'. On a recent test, the car started on the button, with no smoking evident, and she soon settled into a smooth idle. On the road it drove easily and stopped in the usual fashion with the all drum brakes having been recently overhauled. The steering was sharp with directional indication by the semaphore indicators working as they should. The hood operated easily up and down; an important point for those quick sharp showers. Although MoT test exempt, the owner is particular about keeping Maggie safe so there is a current MoT test certificate valid until late October 2015 and, of course, she is also road fund licence exempt.
Although Maggie is no concourse contender she does have a certain charm and is waiting to be enjoyed especially as the finer months are ahead of us, with the picnic basket and its contents included.
