The Bentley T-Series was the Bentley badged version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, available as a four or two door saloon with coachwork by James Young or Mulliner Park Ward. The Bentley differed from its Rolls-Royce equivalent by its more rounded front grill, while the badging on the wheel covers; boot lid and gauges naturally featured Bentley motifs rather than the Rolls-Royce logo. In October 1966, the 'T' saloon's pre-tax 'list price' of £5,375 undercut the Rolls-Royce by £50! The Bentley was technically an identical twin of the Rolls-Royce and seemed to have been purchased mostly by owners wishing for a more understated luxury saloon. The earlier sporting image of Bentley motor cars differing from Rolls-Royces had gone by the time the Silver Shadow/Bentley 'T' was introduced and this was no longer a primary reason to purchase a Bentley over the Rolls-Royce sibling.
This striking Bentley T2 was supplied by Kennings Ltd in Sheffield to His Grace, the Duke of Devonshire on 14th June 1978. A copy of the original build sheet when the car was first commissioned, together with the final assembly inspection report are included in the substantial history file. The Masons black coachwork is in very good order and the beige trim virtually unmarked. It is obvious that KCX 480S has been lovingly cared for. Our brief test drive confirmed this, as she drove beautifully with no faults apparent. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a full years Mot test certificate; Bentley T2s are becoming increasingly difficult to find and are often being purchased by the shrewd investor, after driving this car it is easy to understand why.
