The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA and manufactured until 22 October 1980. The roadster was the first of the MGB range to be produced. The body was a pure two-seater but by making better use of space the MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggage accommodation than the earlier MGA while being three inches shorter overall. The suspension in standard cars was softer, giving a smoother ride, and the larger engine gave a slightly higher top speed. The four speed gearbox was an uprated version of the one used in the MGA with an optional overdrive transmission....of course, that was standard, but this is no standard car...
Owned and raced by the present owner and his wife for the last 20 years, both in the UK and in Europe to include such legendary circuits as Le Mans, Spa 6 Hours, Zandvoot and the Silverstone Classic, this highly competitive MGB is fully FIA compliant with HTP papers included. It has the mandatory full roll cage and has fitted an Ian Prior engine with a Bob Luff cylinder head - recently overhauled with zero miles subsequently recorded. Finished in British Racing Green with twin stripes, it has a foam filled aluminium fuel tank (90 litres) for endurance racing (with a sprint tank available), a plumbed in fire extinguisher and new harnesses for both seats. Mechanically very strong with straight cut strengthened gears, it is currently fitted with a 4.3 limited slip differential (a change of ratios can be made available) and is ready to take on all comers.
