The Beetle was produced from 1938 until 2003 with over 21 million manufactured in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration. It is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world. During the 1950's, the car was modified progressively; the obvious visual changes mostly concerned the rear windows. In March 1953, the small oval two-piece rear window was replaced by a slightly larger single-piece window. More dramatically, in August 1957, a much larger full width rear window replaced the oval one. The Beetle has made numerous appearances in Hollywood films most notably Disney's 'The Love Bug' comedy series from 1968 to 2005 starring as a pearl-white, 1963 Beetle-racing number 53, 'Herbie'.
This Volkswagen Beetle has been modified and is a Wizard convertible. Manufactured in 1972 and imported into the UK in 1983, this 1,600cc Volkswagen is certainly an eye catching vehicle. The deep rich red paintwork is matched with the red/white interior and a white hood. The vendor is a knowledgeable Volkswagen enthusiast and advises us the Wizard drives well with no known faults. A reconditioned engine was fitted 10,000 miles ago and clearly this is a car that has benefitted from time and financial investment. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 5th June 2015, this is a very useable fun car for a modest outlay.
