Lot 311 - 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé
|Odometer reading||50,000 miles|
|Estimate||£34,000 - £39,000|
Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar performance, breathtaking styling and low price tag, the newcomer left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, the model's combination of all-round independent suspension rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding and handling capabilities. Fed by triple SU HD8 carburettors and topped with a 'straight port' DOHC cylinder head, its indomitable 3781cc straight-six engine was quoted as developing some 265bhp and 260lbft of torque. Allied to a four-speed Moss gearbox, it reputedly enabled the E-Type to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and on to 150mph. Achingly beautiful yet viciously quick, the E-type remains for many the ultimate production Jaguar.
This 4.2 litre, Series I, lefthand drive fixed coupé was manufactured in 1968 and we are lead to believe spent the vast majority of its life in California before being moved to New York prior to a return to the UK. The Primrose yellow coachwork is in very good order having been re-sprayed at an earlier date as is the black interior, which we believe to be original, and the chrome work.
The vendor informs us that he has recently dropped the rear sub frame in order to recondition the rear brakes and that the floor pans all appear to be totally original even showing signs of the original factory yellow paint, he believes any inspection will confirm the quality of this lovely original Jaguar and having been driven through the East Sussex countryside upon consignment, we are sure the new owner would not be disappointed.
Supplied with a V5 registration document, import documentation, valid road fund license and a MoT test certificate valid until April 2015 and offered at an attractive estimate could this be an ideal route into fabulous E-Type ownership, especially with ever climbing values rendering Series I E-types an appreciating asset.
