In 1946, Vespa was conceived as a utility two-wheel vehicle and
a means of transportation for the entire family. Its subsequent
success was an unprecedented phenomenon. Vespa rapidly became a
distinctive symbol of Italian style and elegance around the whole
world. Today, Vespa continues to inspire passion and loyalty among
owners and aficionados. Vespa is the only scooter brand that
symbolizes la dolce vita.
This 1988 Piaggio Vespa Scooter was restored and customised around 2002; named The Old School its theme was taken from the gang lands of East London in the 1960's. Finished in red and black with a Union Jack seat this scooter has had contemporary pictures of 1960's boxers and gang members incorporated onto the engine covers, a reference to the villains love of the Jaguar as a getaway car, by mounting Jaguar mascots to the front mud guard and headlight unit. The scooter has a front carrier where the 'Mods' of the day would mount extra mirrors and lights, side crash bars and a back rest with a spare wheel carrier on the seat with a flexible Arial to fly the flags from. Although this Vespa has not been used for the last four years the vendor has fitted a new battery and reports that it starts and runs well. It is also supplied with a V5C registration document. A unique scooter which could be regarded as a piece of contemporary art.
