Lot 368 - 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II Roadster
|Estimate||£40,000 - £45,000|
|Result||Sold - £44,800|
The Jaguar E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as a convertible roadster. The 2+2 version with a lengthened wheelbase was released several years later. On its release Enzo Ferrari called the Jaguar E-Type "The most beautiful car ever made". The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as 'Series 1', 'Series 2' and 'Series 3'. The Museum of Modern Art recognized the significance of the Jaguar E-Type's design in 1996 by adding a blue roadster to its permanent design collection, one of only two automobiles to receive this distinction. Open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged 'mouth' and twin electric fans, together with uprated brakes are all hallmarks of Series two cars. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial 'ribbed' appearance. The interior and dashboard were also re-designed, with rocker switches being substituted for toggle switches. The dashboard switches also lost their symmetrical layout. New seats were fitted, which purists claim lacked the style of the originals but were certainly more comfortable and air conditioning and power steering were available as factory options.
Originally supplied on 16th October 1969 this is a genuine UK supplied righthand drive roadster. The current vendor has owned CLC737H for the last 29 years and due to lack of suitable storage space; has decided it is time to part with the Jaguar. To be expected of a car in the ownership of one owner for such a long time, the history file is substantial and this is a perfectly useable E-Type, for a modest outlay in today's market place. The white coachwork is in good order, as is the trim. We are advised the car drives "as she should" and with summer upon us, this could be the perfect car to buy. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate this 4.2 Series II Roadster is sure to attract interest.
