Lot 450 - 1981 Austin Mini City
|Estimate||£4,000 - £5,500|
|Result||Sold - £4,704|
The Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960's and its space-saving front-wheel drive layout allowing 80% of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage, influenced a generation of car makers. In 1999, the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century behind the Ford Model T. Initially Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. The Mini was again marketed under the Austin name in the 1980's and was offered in a number of limited editions that usually included a special combination of trim and badging.
This Mini city was first registered on 30th April 1981, and has only had three owners throughout its 33 years on the road. Much time and financial investment has benefitted TUR 576W and she now sports 'flared' wheel arches with mini-lite style wheels, sports bucket seats and a full length electric Webasto sunroof. Supplied with a registration document and a current MoT test certificate, this is a Mini that offers fun and classic car motoring at modest cost.
