The Mercedes-Benz W116 is a series of flagship vehicles produced from September 1972 until 1979 and were the first Mercedes-Benz models to be officially called S-Class, although earlier saloon models had already unofficially been designated with the letter 'S' - for Sonderklasse or 'special class.' The 'new' S-class generation development began in 1966, which was only a year after the launch of the W108/09 models. The design, finalized in 1969 was a dramatic leap forward, with more masculine lines that combined to create an elegant and sporty character. The basic design concept was inspired from the highly acclaimed R107 SL-Class roadster, in particular the front and rear lights.
Originally registered on 27th April 1976, this Mercedes-Benz has had four previous owners throughout its 38 years on the road. The Silver paintwork is in excellent condition, showing no signs of corrosion and the blue interior is unmarked. The brightwork is also in excellent order. Without doubt this car has been lovingly cared for and is a credit to the current and previous owners. When requested, the 3,499cc engine burst into life and on our short test drive, this W116 behaved exactly as she should, with no adverse noises or rattles. The odometer reading of 33472 is thought to be correct, although this is not warranted. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a history file, this is a superb example of a highly desirable Mercedes-Benz.
