From 1990 to 1995, Mercedes-Benz sold a high-performance version of the W124, the Mercedes-Benz 500E. The 500E was created in close co-operation with Porsche; each one being hand-built by Porsche and transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany during assembly, with a full 18 days being taken to complete each car. The 500E had a naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 engine derived from the 500SL (R129) and braking performance also came from SL components. The 500E was manufactured as a four seat saloon and in left hand drive only. The leather seats were supplied by Recaro with the fronts being electrically operated and heated. Called the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" by the press, performance tests of the day yielded impressive results with 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) times of 5.5 to 6.0 seconds. The top speed was 260 km/h (161.5 mph) with the engine speed limited to 6000 rpm. With its aggressive stance, 1.5 inch wider track, lower profile, flared wheel arches, side skirts, front air-dam and wider tyres, the 500E is easily distinguished from its lesser brethren. Because of its look, limited numbers, hand-built construction at Porsche and its unique pedigree, the 500E is already considered a 'classic'; even within Mercedes-Benz, and this therefore represents an ideal opportunity to acquire a very special car.

This very rare UK specification Mercedes-Benz 500E was supplied new and registered on 4th April 1991 by Mercedes-Benz head office in Milton Keynes; there was only twenty four 500E'swere built to UK specification. This pre face-lift example, fitted with the early large radiator grill, is finished in graphite grey metallic with black leather interior and was supplied to a very high specification including electric memory sports front seats and individual sport rear seats, air conditioning, electric tilt and slide sun roof, 18" multi spoke alloy wheels, upgraded stereo system, new sports exhaust system and electric windows. This 500E is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which will expire in February 2015 and the file containing the service book, handbooks, old MoT test certificates and invoices which also confirm that the car has only covered 86,500 miles from new. The service book is stamped up to 2010 and we are informed by the vendor that since then the timing belts and a service has been carried out within the last 1000 miles. As a consequence of being engineered in conjunction with Porsche these very special cars give high performance with the handling of a sports car and were all left hand drive. This actual car is illustrated in the Osprey Classic Marques book Mercedes-Benz Legends and should prove to be a sound investment for the future as its value can only increase over the next few years.

Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Buyers are advised to inspect the car in person or use a professional to carry out this service.
